Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIUMM203D - Prepare and perform manual scaling operations

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for manual scaling

  1. Access, interpret and apply manual scaling operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  3. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
  4. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  5. Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for the activity
  6. Identify, address and report environmental issues, potential risks and hazards
  7. Communicate with other equipment operators and personnel using approved communication methods
  8. Use approved dust suppression and extraction equipment/methods
  9. Establish exclusion zone to prevent unauthorised access
  10. Ensure work area is ventilated before entry
